Yale University researchers conducted an extensive study to examine people's attitudes towards occupations. The study, led by Professor Amy Wrzesniewski of the Yale School of Management, focused on uncovering the underlying differences in how people feel about their jobs and how these emotions affect job satisfaction and performance.
Why Did You Choose This Job?
The research team asked more than 1,000 participants from different careers to rate the importance of various career-related factors, such as pay, enjoyment, and self-expression. They also investigated whether individuals had different motivations to enter their chosen profession. The results showed that although everyone has unique motivations to pursue certain occupations, overall satisfaction is strongly linked to the sense of purpose or mission behind one's job.
